Child & Parent Resource Institute Therapeutic Play Courtyards

The Child & Parent Resource Institute provides voluntary services to children and youth with complex mental health and/or developmental challenges to families throughout the Province of Ontario, Canada. In developing a new single building for their aging facilities on their existing campus, Urban Play Studio was hired as landscape architect / play consultant by the lead architect to work with staff and an occupational therapist to develop four play and therapy courtyards. Each space was specifically designed per staff specifications to serve various diagnostic and treatment needs for children 0 to 17 years of age. In addition, diversion spaces, an entry intake courtyard, and a campus site playground with picnic areas, play courts and recreation fields were designed to serve the facility.
