The $1.2 million inclusive playground at Red-tailed Hawk in Aurora, Colorado was inspired by 8-year-old Ashaun and his Make-A-Wish experience grant. Ashaun and his family dreamed of a playground where he and his sisters could play alongside other children without the typical boundaries that children in wheelchairs and with cognitive and physical challenges typically face.

The Stream–Urban Play Studio landscape architecture team was selected to design the high-profile Washington Park central playground renovation project. Located in one of Denver’s most well-loved parks, the project had a very active and involved neighborhood group which called for an in-depth public process.

The Child & Parent Resource Institute provides voluntary services to children and youth with complex mental health and/or developmental challenges to families throughout the Province of Ontario, Canada. In developing a new single building for their aging facilities on their existing campus, Urban Play Studio was hired as landscape architect / play consultant by the lead architect to work with staff and an occupational therapist to develop 4 play and therapy courtyards.

Funded by the Tri-County Health Department and led by the Colorado Center for Community Development (CCCD), the ‘Active Schoolyards, Active Minds’ projects included site master planning for 40 schools in 9 school districts. The program is intended to foster physical activity and academic success in schools and their surrounding communities. For each school, the community engagement process included district and focus group meetings, student surveys, and community workshops.

Urban Play Studio collaborated with The Trust for Public Land and the City of Aurora to renovate Jewell and Nome Parks to better serve their neighborhood communities. With construction completed in 2018, the projects focused on youth program space, community gathering areas, and engaging children’s play spaces.
